#4 – A Few Words on Social Media Influence and the Power of Community

When we talk about shifting the perception of the international community, it's important to understand: there is zero pressure on Hamas to release the hostages. In fact, it’s the opposite - world leaders are calling for recognition of a Palestinian state without even mentioning them, while they waste away in tunnels for nearly 700 days.
Meanwhile, the internet is flooded with accusations of deliberate starvation, genocide, and conspiracy theories about Jews controlling the U.S. government - all meant to cement the idea that Israel is to blame for the world’s ills. Traditional “Hasbara” (public diplomacy) responds to these lies reactively: chasing after them and trying to disprove them. But here lies the trap: by reacting, you only reinforce the narrative. For example, saying “Israel is not committing genocide” only strengthens the link between “Israel” and “genocide.”
This is the difference between standard hasbara and what we do at BrightMind: we don’t do explanations, we do influence. We don’t react - we shape the narrative, create it, and amplify it.
For instance, instead of arguing about whether there is starvation in Gaza, we chose to simply show what is happening - through the eyes of Gazans themselves: restaurants, supermarkets, cafés, gyms. While the networks are saturated with lies from the Palestinian propaganda machine, we flood them with truth, aiming to crack the false narrative and reframe the conversation.
Changing public perception comes from an accumulation of small wins - that’s what we strive for, in wartime and in routine. It’s a long, slow process, but effective in the long run, because only by consistently embedding our narrative online can we give it the legitimacy it needs.
Our community has enormous power. Together we’ve set trends, exposed scandals, scored ratio after ratio on UNRWA and UN posts that echoed the truth to their audiences, canceled antisemitic events, and gone viral with campaigns like #HamasIsISIS and #AllEyesOnQatar. Together we can create social proof, showing there is a majority that supports Israel and opposes terror, and make social media a place where people feel safe to express this stance. Together we can give backing to all the brave voices speaking up for us, especially non-Israeli Christians and Muslims, and provide them the support that encourages them and their followers to keep raising their sane, balanced voices.
Together, we can make it clear to the international community that ending the war requires putting pressure on Qatar - so that Hamas, its proxy and beneficiary, will be forced to surrender and release the hostages. Together, we can shift the spotlight to the real issue: raising awareness of the hostages and demanding their immediate release.
